Rumors have already begun swirling around about a potential delay in the release of gaming’s most anticipated game to date, Grand Theft Auto 6. There is nothing concrete as of right now, as Rockstar has neither confirmed nor denied the rumors, but we can’t entirely rule out the claims as the leaker has made fairly accurate predictions regarding the game in the past.
From the trailer that dropped back in December 5, 2023, fans were promised a 2025 release date, with Rockstar further clarifying that the game would be released in late 2025. Ever since then, Rockstar has retreated into the shadows and kept mum about anything relating to the highly anticipated game. There was the whole issue with leaks and development videos being released by a hacker, but most of those were ignored and handled away from the public eye.
This new leak is less intrusive and is more of a heads-up from a prolific leaker of Grand Theft Auto content who goes by the name ‘Liam GTABase’ on X (previously Twitter). According to Liam, multiple developers across two studios tied to the project have supposedly provided him with information pertaining to a delay well beyond the expected release date. He confirms that the delays have already been acknowledged internally, and it’s only a matter of time before Rockstar publicly announces the new expected release date.
Liam also states that the release of the PC version for Grand Theft Auto 6 will be about 12 to 18 months after the game launches on consoles. This as well is rumored to be validated by a number of developers working on the game.
The claims by the leaker are sure to upset a lot of fans, as the release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 was already a year away from the trailer launch, so an additional 6 to 8 months would be agonizing for fans eager to get their hands on a game that has been in development for almost 8 years now. As this is a leak, it’s best to take everything claimed with a pinch of salt but to not entirely rule it out as GTA VI is a massive undertaking and something like this wouldn’t be out of the ordinary.
Although being a rumor as of right now, there’s further reason to believe these claims by the prolific leaker owing to his pedigree regarding the topic. Liam previously broke the news of an imminent GTA VI trailer coming in December 2023 and was 100% correct, beating out mainstream outlets and other prolific leakers, making his recent claims slightly more credible. His previous accurate prediction also validates his sources, as he managed to get it down to the correct month, which cannot be chalked down to “luck.”
Grand Theft Auto 6 is undoubtedly the most anticipated game of this decade and is expected to make waves throughout all of gaming and pop culture. It is the eighth official entry in the main line Grand Theft Auto Series and will be set in Leonida, based in Florida.
