Based on the metrics, it has proven to be a substantial step up from its standard version, but there still exist some controversial aspects to this release that need to be addressed, specifically the price.

Console diehards have been patiently waiting for this moment, finally giving them the freedom to ring the bells of war against their PC counterparts, who for the most part had been enjoying a comfortable lead. The unveiling of the PlayStation 5 has undoubtedly bought console gamers a new lease on life that is sure to sustain their campaign for the next 3 years, at the very least based on the bare metrics that are surprisingly impressive.

The epitome of console gaming has recently been touted as a device with high-end performance gaming in mind as well as a product with a profound emphasis on superior graphics and streamlined gameplay. The PS5 Pro beats its predecessor in every possible metric and is an unabashedly superior product in every way, shape, or form, as proven by the following stats.

  • 67% more compute units
  • 28% faster memory
  • 45% faster render speed

The Design

The PlayStation 5’s design closely resembles that of the PS5 Slim, with some minor changes here and there, such as being noticeably chunkier as well as having a more pronounced separation between the two side panels. The PS5 Pro’s separation features three separate lines spanning it, which helps give it an even more futuristic vibe. The PlayStation 5 also has an additional blue LED strip that makes it look even more premium, which should be the case going by its eye-watering price tag.

The Price

The PlayStation 5 Pro has an official price tag and will be retailing (MSRP) at $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (including tax). The PlayStation 5 is also a diskless console in its base form, which means that you will need to purchase the disk drive separately for an additional $50. If you also include the stand, the complete PlayStation 5 package comes up to $890. This price has proven very controversial as it seems to minimize the prospects of console gaming over PC gaming even further, which doesn’t bode well with fans.
