After a pair of disappointing performances at the beginning of the UEFA Champions League season, PSG has to play their best game against PSV. The Dutch champion is also struggling on the international scene and has to be ready for the challenge in the French capital.

Both the French and the Dutch champions have to bring their best game in the third round of the Champions League. Both PSG and PSV are coming off impressive performances in the domestic leagues and it will be interesting to see if they can transfer that power to the international scene.

Bradley Barcola is their leading scorer in Ligue 1 with 7 goals while Kang-In Lee and Ousmane Dembele have 4 goals each.

PSV has a slow start in the Champions League even though no one really expected anything more from the Dutch Champion. They were blown out in the home opener against Juventus and then won a point on the road in Lisbon against Sporting. Things are going as planned in the Eredivisie as PSV has a perfect record after nine games. Last weekend, they defeated one of the biggest competitors in the league, AZ Alkmaar, 2-1 on the road. Luuk de Jong leads the team with 5 goals so far in the season, followed by Hirving Lozano and Malik Tillman who has 4 goals each.

Regardless, based on what we saw in the first two games on the schedule, PSG will have a long way to go just to make it to the knockout phase. They barely beat Girona in the opening matchday and then lost to Arsenal in London. Going with only one point by their name makes this a must-win for the Parisians. They are coming off an impressive offensive performance in the 4-2 win over Strasbourg, and what is even more important for head coach Luis Enrique is the fact that only Goncalo Ramos is injured. On the other side, things do not look very promising for PSV. The Dutch champion has only one point after two rounds, as they played a tie with Sporting Lisbon and lost to Juventus. PSV’s manager Peter Bosz faces real problems with injured players before taking the trip to Paris. PSV’s top scorer, Mexican Hirving Lozano, is injured, just like midfielders Joey Veerman and Jerdy Schouten, who were regulars in Bosz’s starting lineup. The most experienced defender, Rick Karsdorp, is also out for the team from Eindhoven, which is another reason why PSV’s chances in this match are very slim. They are an offensively oriented team since they dominate most of the opponents in the Eredivisie and they beat AZ Alkmaar 2-1 on the road in the last game, so gambling on their defense is not something they will do in Paris.
