The RLCS 2024 World Championship, Rocket League’s premier annual event, reached a peak viewership of 426,833. Held at the Dickies Arena in Texas, USA, the event fell short of last year’s peak of 468,292. Despite this, the average viewership saw a modest increase of around 5,000, rising to 153,718, according to Esports Charts.

Although the peak numbers dipped, RLCS viewership overall remained steady, with several key highlights. Notably, this year’s tournament saw a change in format, featuring two splits, each with three open qualifiers leading into an international major. The top performers from each region advanced to the RLCS World Championship, which boasted a prize pool of $1.165 million (£0.88 million). Team BDS emerged victorious, claiming $300,000 (£227,308) for their efforts.

The tournament’s most-watched match was the semifinal between Karmine Corp and G2 Esports, underscoring the impact of individual team fanbases on viewership. Despite not being the final, this match attracted significant attention. Karmine Corp also featured in last year’s most-viewed series against Team Vitality. The French fanbase remains particularly passionate about Rocket League, with more peak viewers (220,001) than the English-speaking audience (206,830).

While total hours watched dropped by over 2 million, this decrease can be attributed to the event’s shorter runtime—16 hours less than the 2023 edition.

With the conclusion of the RLCS World Championship, the 2024 competitive season has officially wrapped. During the Grand Final, Psyonix announced several exciting updates for the upcoming season, including a new 1v1 format alongside the traditional 3v3, a combined $5 million (~£3.78 million) prize pool, Last Chance Open Qualifiers before the World Championship, and an expansion to 20 teams.
