Serbia – Switzerland: Initial situation
Switzerland is the reason why Serbia finished their last two World Cup appearances in the group stage and the Serbs cannot wait for a payback. That may be much tougher to be said than done, since plenty of players have refused to play for the national team as long as Dragan Stojkovic is the head coach. Serbia has only two wins in the last ten games and both of those came in friendly games. They failed to score in four of their last five games overall.

It seems like Switzerland does not get the respect they deserve in the world of football. This small country has an excellent mix of experienced and young players who play very well together. They had an impressive performance in the 2024 EURO eliminating Italy in the round of 16 before losing to England after a penalty shootout in the quarterfinals. That was an excellent opportunity for this team to make the biggest result in their history and it seems like it took a huge toll on the squad. Switzerland has a poot start of the Nations League losing the first two games in the competition. First, they lost 2-0 on the road against Denmark and then were demolished by Spain by 4-1 at home. Switzerland’s seven of their last ten games have ended under 2.5 goals in regulation.

Given that, it was expected this game to be a hot ticket in Serbia but their football federation decided to host the game at a stadium that can barely sit 8,000 people. However, Serbia’s head coach Dragan Stojkovic has bigger problems than the attendance since he was forced to create a team without the top stars from the past years. unlike Serbia, Switzerland has plenty of experienced players who have been together for years. That definitely gives them a certain advantage going into this game. Still, Serbia has an excellent center-backs with Milan’s Strahinja Pavlovic and Nottingham Forest’s Nikola Milenkovic making a rock solid tandem.
